The existing
Mark Andy 830 presses are difficult to wash-up between jobs. This
is particularly true of stations 1 and 2. The tendency is for pressmen
to jog the press while wiping the rolls. Sometimes a shop towel
or hand gets caught. Even with the quick-change system, lint or
other foreign material can find its way to the inking rolls. Pressmen
tend to remove these while the press is running.
With our system,
the anilox has a replaceable single aluminum pin on one end that
drives it. The anilox drives the meter roll. This pin is intended
to shear if there is a jam. If it should shear, the inking rolls
will not turn.
In the event
the press would be started and the print station is in place but
not fully locked pneumatically, the station will be "kicked"
from place by the anilox driver stub. The shear pin takes the entire
load in this instance and acts to protect all other parts from damage.
Most significantly,
the system removes all the temptation to clean rolls in the press.
It is both quicker and easier to remove them and therefore more
likely to be done in a safe manner.
Just ask "Stubby",
your eight fingered pressman, whether this safety business is a
big deal or not.
